b5media Gains New Travel Blog: Escape Blog

A new blog called Escape Blog, of the travel variety, has joined the b5media family.

Actually, it’s more than just a travel blog, according to b5media, the blog will feature sometimes humorous commentary on the customs of the world. The blog will be manned by Melissa Atienza-Petri who also writes for the b5media Europe String (blog dedicated to traveling Europe on a shoestring budget).

Keep Talent Happy (Motto of Successful Blog Networks)

Keeping your talent happy should be the number 1 rule if you’re starting a blog network. Jason Calacanis of Weblogs, Inc. has a few tips on how to do just that.

  1. Keep talented folks focused on making great product.
  2. Get talented people paid (so they can focus on making great product)
  3. Let talented people grow and support the hell out of them (so they can focus on making great product)
  4. Make talented people feel comfortable that they are not going to get screwed (so they can focus on making great product).
  5. Make a bunch of money (so talented folks can get more money and get more focused on making great product).

Nice tips. Every network owner needs to hop over there and take a quick read.

Building A More Noticeable Blog Network

Launching a blog network is no easy task. Sure, building the sites and throwing up a couple blog entries can be easy, but what do you do when no one takes notice and the momentum dies?

Chartreuse has written a nice post on how to get your blog network noticed.

  1. Content (this should be a given, but is far too easily forgotten.)
  2. KISS, in reference to the blog.
  3. Empower your readers.
  4. Tour (otherwise known as networking)
  5. Never sell out.

If you believe you are the next great blog network, read it. Some sage advice in there.

Hyderabad

Well, I was never really good at geography, so I’ll take MetroBlogging’s word that this place actually exists — and it’s also the name of its newest blog.

It seems Hyderabad is a city in India that is home to more than 6 million people…wow.

Will Celebrities Blog?

That’s the question Syntagma Media will answer with it’s recently launched Celebrity at Work blog.

The idea is to contact a number of celebrities to contribute to the blog. The burning question is will they.

Basically, I’m asking a riverboat full of celebrities to write posts on subjects close to their work or interests. They may be stars of screen or stage, politicians, authors, divas or divos (is there such a word?), common or garden blog network owners like myself (O, the tedium!).

The first celebrity profiled is, of course, John Evans the Sytagma Media owner, followed by Steve Newman.

There are already a number of celebs blogging, but certainly not enough to cause a ripple in Hollywood. Maybe Syntagma can get some more of them bitten by the blogging bug — here’s hoping.

Write For IBMeye

IBMeye, part of the b5media network, is currently looking for a writer who won’t drink the water.

There must be something in the water around here as we cant seem to keep an IBM Eye writer. Im currently sourcing a new author. If anyone out there is interested, please drop me a line at jon@b5media.com.

Don’t know if mentioning that you can’t keep a writer instills confidence in potential applicants or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning regardless.

WIN May, Indeed, Be Growing

Brian Alvey, WIN President and Co-Founder, has posted a call for blog designers, and mentions that he’s looking for designers to help keep up with their “upcoming two or three blogs per week launch schedule.”

Because of one requirement, “People who are able to deal with customers who have mockups or working HTML and get them running in Blogsmith”, I wasn’t sure whether the two-three blogs per week would be for WIN or clients, so I asked — and he answered:

By “customers” I just mean anyone using Blogsmith. It’s a mix — Weblogs, AOL and beyond.

One could draw that the AOL/WIN may start experiencing some rapid growth.

Jack Of All Blogs Up For Sale

You may remember the name Jack of All Blogs (aka JOAB) from the scuffle that arose awhile back. Things seemed to have calmed down since, but never really seemed the same.

Now, David Krug has officially listed JOAB for sale at the SitePoint forums. Is it just me or does it seems as though a lot of blogs are being let go?

I’m starting to wonder if the JOAB sale announcement coming on the heels of the Fine Fools sale announcement is coincidental, considering that JOAB was once part of the Fine Fools Network.

The starting price for JOAB is $1,200, but if you’re really interested, a Buy It Now price set at $5,000 plus fees.

b5 Continues Its Expansion

I’ll admit it, I was skeptical of b5media’s intentions with the launch of a few of its blogs. It seemed as though they were going for the high paying keywords and the choice of blog subjects was solely based on revenue potential.

With the launch of it’s most recent blog, GenBetween penned by Elizabeth the busy mom, and taking the time to read the content being published across the network, b5media is really starting to grow on me.

…we’re also blogging to make a difference in people’s lives.

With the launch of GenBetween, a new blog in the Family and Relationships Channel, we’re hoping to make someone’s life just a little easier to bear today.

Let’s hope the quality only continues to get better and much luck with their newest blog.

Upgrade In Progress

Blog Network News is powered by WordPress, which is up to version 2.0.02, and because this blog was left unattended for some months, the software hasn’t been upgraded.

If you note any significant changes, or possible error messages or downtime, it may be due to the upgrade process.

This entry will be updated when the upgrade is complete (I hope within an hour), then blogging will resume its normal schedule.
